The Port Jackson Over 40s program enjoyed another outstanding year, highlighted by a strong showing at the State Championships held in Wollongong in December. With four teams competing across two divisions, the depth and quality of cricket on display reflected the continued growth and strength of the club.
In Division 1, Port Jackson Blue delivered an excellent campaign, finishing as runners-up after a hard-fought final against Central Coast, going down by just 6 runs. It was a high-quality match that could have gone either way and capped off a consistent tournament from the side. Port Jackson Red also performed strongly, finishing 4th overall and remaining competitive throughout the carnival.
In Division 2, Port Jackson White mirrored the success of their Division 1 counterparts, reaching the final before falling to the host side by 5 wickets. It was another impressive performance that showcased the club’s depth. Port Jackson Gold competed well across the tournament, finishing 3rd in their pool and ultimately placing 6th overall, with several tight contests along the way.
There were a number of standout individual performances from Port Jackson players across both divisions. Ryan Snape was a key contributor with both bat and ball, while Andrew Dadswell, Matthew Kings and Yasir Ali featured prominently with consistent performances across the tournament. Trent Comiskey and Shane Pargeter were key contributors with the bat in Div 1, alongside Avinash Shidore with a strong batting performance in Division 2. With the ball, David Abreu, Dadswell, Snape were particular standouts
The season also saw Port Jackson players recognised at a higher level following the National Carnival in Adelaide, with Rob Lavery earning selection in the Australian side and Ryan Snape selected in the Australia A squad after strong performances.
Beyond the results, carnivals were thoroughly enjoyed by all players, with Wollongong providing a fantastic setting for competitive yet social cricket. The continued expansion of the program is a major highlight, with Port Jackson growing from one Over 40s team to four in just three years. This growth is a testament to the strength of the club culture and confirms that Over 40s cricket is alive and thriving.
